BAVA ~ January Exhibition in the Biloela Library Art Space.

Artworks to arrive on Monday 5th January, 2009 @ the Library 9.30am

Artworks will be there throughout the month and pickup will be Saturday, 31st January.

Exciting BAVA News ~
I have been nominated for the 2009 Australia Day Cultural Award.

A surprise letter on Christmas Eve, I'll have more information closer to the date. Inviting all BAVA artists along to Australia Day @ Banana, Monday, 26th January, 2009. Celebrations will be held at the Sutherland Hall. Commencing @ 10.00 am with a Street Parade. The presentation of Awards will be at approx 2.00 pm.

Other News......

Artist & friend Jenelle Wood and I are off the Toowoomba to attend McGregor, leaving Tuesday 6th January.
A goal we planned for 2010, has come early after I won the Brigalow Art Scholarship supported by Anglo Coal.
Hoping to make it a yearly event - Summer or Winter BAVA Ladies:)

A lovely afternoon together at Kristine's on Monday, 16th December with Juanita Zischke owner/manager of Kristine's Coffee Shop in Biloela. Ladies from BAVA relaxed with Juanita and had a cuppa.

I made a speech on behalf of everyone who has exhibited artworks and others who enjoy a cuppa from time to time.

Thankyou so such for your ongoing support for the art group BAVA, to showcase their art in your shop. Juanita, your support is appreciated. The gift of giving was very much alive with ladies from BAVA giving a piece of artwork to Juanita in appreciation.

Secret Santa Gift was wonderful again this year with everyone very excited to receive a lovely artwork from each other.

With the exhibits they can create a flyer/program for the tables or a collection tabs of Title, Media, Cost & Artists contact details on it, artists then blue-tack it to the wall.

Kym will be there to help with the setting up of the exhibits.

First Showcase of Artworks

"Isabella Gunnourie"

Hi, my name is Isabella Gunnourie, I’m 10 years old and was born here in Biloela. This is my first exhibition and I’m very excited about it! These paintings have been done over the last year, and are inspired by the things around me at home. I live in the country surrounded by lots of animals and birds with a peaceful backdrop of trees and open spaces. I have a happy life and I hope this shines through in my works!

October Workshop With Flying Arts Tutor - Sharon Muir.

Sharon is a professional practicing artist with two decades of experience in the visual arts. As an art educator she has worked in a range of educational institutions, facilitated numerous community art projects and is currently part of the Flying Arts team, touring outback QLD and NSW. She works as a freelance workshop tutor, traveling throughout Australia, teaching a spectrum of subjects and skills. She is based in Mullumbimby in northern NSW and regularly
exhibits her work in solo and nationally selected contemporary art shows, with her most recent series of artworks exhibited in a solo show “Feathers, Fish, Fur and Flowers” at Grafton Regional Art Gallery.

Participants enjoying the hands on side of Colour & workshing through the worksheets Sharon had set up.

At the workshop we developed confidence with using colour by learning how to mix the colour you wanted every time, using the double primary mixing system. The colour wheel and the most commonly used colour schemes will be gradually introduced, with the aim of developing a strong foundation in the understanding and use of colour. Experience was gained through practical hands on sessions using coloured paper and paint. This workshop was coordinated with the Brigalow Arts Festival here in Biloela this week.

Topics covered during the workshop:
• Introduction to the colour bias wheel
• Gouache, how to mix and apply colour
• Values/monochromatic colour scheme
• Mixing tints/tones and shades
• Colour matching
• Value exercises
• Introduction to complementary colour scheme
• Mixing complementary pairs
• Introduction to analogous/split complementary colour schemes
• Mixing exercises using these schemes
