Banana Shire Council

Mosaic tile representing the community’s present and future vision

The future tile was created by Michelle Lyons Briggs, in composition with: Gwen Evetts, Kym Simms, Olga Bath, Sarah Larsen, Maria Wiley, Karen Gaskell, Odette Williams, Michele Lyons Briggs, Jenelle Wood and Gail VanItallie. The art work is based on the Banana Shire Logo, as it expresses a vision of the future for the Shire. The white 'b' in the centre represents the road to Banana Shire, where they are headed. Blue represents the water of life and fresh air that everything needs for growth. Green represents the land, green technology that has been developed in the Shire which will lead to a greener future. The variety of graduation from the brown reds to yellow represents the industries of the region as a bright and colourful future. The names of all the towns in the district flow into the path to the future because these communities are the future.

Banana Shire Council

The past tile, by artist Gwen Evetts, was created in composition with Biloela Area Visual Arts: Gwen Evetts, Kym Simms, Olga Bath, Sarah Larsen, Maria Wiley, Karen Gaskell, Odette Williams, Michele Lyons Briggs, Jenelle Wood and Gail VanItallie. On the outer Edge of the tile are the names of the 12 towns in the Banana Shire. Biloela means Cockatoo, Thangool means Possum and Jambin means Echidna in the local Indigenous language. There are three mountains depicted on the sides of the tile, Mr Ramsay, Mt Scoria and the Isla Gorge. In the centre is the Banana Shire Logo. The key concept is all roads lead to the Banana Shire. The tile also depicts the Cobb and Co Coach route through the Shire. Resting inside ether "b" logo are images representing the Indigenous people of the Shire.

"B.A.V.A. has breathed new life into the local art community. There are many creative people in the Callide Valley from all dimensions of art who, until B.A.V.A. formed, were doing their own thing and often unaware what other artists were doing.
Now we get together to share ideas, encourage one another and learn new skills . . .
Being part of B.A.V.A. is like being together on a bus - with Kym at the wheel, taking us to new and exciting places!
We laugh a lot, meet lots of new people and usually have something to take home to show our family and friends. "
Karen, local artist
