BAVA are a group of artists ranging from beginners, intermediate to professional . . . focusing on supporting and developing the talents of local artists to benefit the cultural community of the Banana Shire.

We organize and co-ordinate various workshops through the year and are active participants in cultural events such as the annual Brigalow Arts Festival, Callide Valley Show and individual and combined exhibitions through out the Banana Shire.

We provide information on our calendar of events including workshops, art competitions and Flying Arts details.

Abstracting in the Italian Landscape

Peter Griffen.

Peter is well known as one of Australia's leading abstract painters, teaching and exhibiting throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Peter invites you to join him in the studio at villa Madonna for ten days of free-thinking, experimental abstract painting, semi-abstract still life and en plein air painting. Many techniques using acrylic paint are demonstrated, with particular emphasis on composition, line and strong colour.

This is Peter's second summer school at Villa Madonna.

The pursuit of masterly quality and technique is a high priority for Lyn Diefenbach. Her work covers a myriad of subject matter, with her bold florals receiving accolades nationally and internationally. Lyn's ability to communicate her ideas has entrenched her as a respected and sought-after tutor.

Lyn was accepted into the International Guild of Realism in May 2008 and has Master Pastellist status with the Pastel Society of Australia.

Her enthusiastic and innovative approach to painting techniques will stimulate and inspire you, bringing to life her philosophy that art is a shared experience. You will learn about stretching paper, brushes, mixing paints, flat and graded washes, wet-in-wet, wet on dry, textures, glazing and many other water-based techniques, and how to apply these techniques when painting the Italian landscape.
