Hi!

It was great catching up with everyone at our last month's get-together! Look forward to seeing everyone again in a few weeks :)

I hope to finish the last piece (no. 30) of my daily painting challenge today! Well, it's taken me more than a month ... 2 exactly, but I am breathing a big sigh of relief already :)

It's been an interesting (if not exhausting) experience ... I paint in the evenings & on the nights I paint I have been up as late as 1am! So ... I'm looking forward to absorbing what I've learnt & having a rest :) I hope to take pieces, or perhaps sections of some, that i like & using them to create larger works on either canvas or paper.

I'll be reflecting (perhaps on my vlog- video log) on this experience, what I've learnt & gained from it ... very soon. Stay tuned! Till then ...

BAVA invited to create Q150 Tile

Queensland Mosaics
Queensland communities can create their very own piece of Queensland to form part of a giant mosaic art piece as part of the Queensland Mosaics initiative.
Each regional council has been sent two individual tiles to decorate. The tiles, created by Brisbane artist Elise Parups, are loosely based on the shape of Queensland and were specifically designed so that each piece stands alone as an artwork yet can be joined together endlessly with no gaps or overlapping parts. The shape represents the growing nature of our State, and our ability to build on the past to look towards the future.
Councils have been invited to express their community's unique past on one tile and their aspirations for the future on the other. The pieces will come together to form a 41 square metre art piece at the RNA Showgrounds, ready for the 2009 show.
Salvatore Di Mauro, senior lecturer in design from Griffith University's Queensland College of Art, will curate the piece. Regional councils can tap into the creative talents of local artists, school children, or community or volunteer groups to beautify the shapes. The artwork is not restricted to painted surfaces and can include some three-dimensional elements.
Councils were sent a mosaic art kit which includes the tiles, templates for initial designs and guidelines outlining criteria in October 2008. BAVA was invited to create a draft for the Q150 tile, after brainstorming the ideas of the past & future vision for the tile, Gwen Evetts & Michele Briggs offered to draft up the final composition of the tiles. The drafts have now been sent away for viewing and will be returned with a final decision on the drafts to continue with the tiles.

JEWELLERY DICHROIC GLASS WORKSHOP 2009

Met up with Robyn Wust, at the Craft Fair 2008 here at the Biloela Civic Centre.
Robyn is very happy to come to Biloela and conduct a one day Dichroic Glass Workshop.

Cost will be around $130.00 each & the participants will make 10 - 12 beautiful pieces. Christmas & Birthday presents done at one workshop - unreal.

Olga Bath has kindly organised this workshop and is fully booked.

Exciting BAVA News ~
I have been nominated for the 2009 Australia Day Cultural Award.

A surprise letter on Christmas Eve, I'll have more information closer to the date. Inviting all BAVA artists along to Australia Day @ Banana, Monday, 26th January, 2009. Celebrations will be held at the Sutherland Hall. Commencing @ 10.00 am with a Street Parade. The presentation of Awards will be at approx 2.00 pm.

Other News......

Artist & friend Jenelle Wood and I are off the Toowoomba to attend McGregor, leaving Tuesday 6th January.
A goal we planned for 2010, has come early after I won the Brigalow Art Scholarship supported by Anglo Coal.
