Gelatin Printing & Tea Bag Art Weekend.

Peta Lloyd (Gelatine printing Tutor) Left

&

Nanette Balchin (TeaBag Art/Collage Tutor) Right

Transforming Tea Bags

Are you mad about creating intriguing visual surfaces? Do you love collecting and using found objects both natural and man made? Are you a tea drinker with a creative bent? Then this workshop was very interesting to the participants who attended. Using copper wire, teabags, found objects, metallic foil and papers, they created unusual decorative pieces which can be used in collage work or they can become beautiful semi transparent objects for boxes, cards or other art works. All sorts of leaves, twigs, threads, papers, wire, card, even small photos can be sandwiched within layers of tea bags. Once the tea bags are ‘constructed,’ paint and metallic foils are used to create a distinctive textural surface or a unique object. Everyone was really surprised with what could be made from the tea bags and how beautiful the objects were. It is a simple process with intriguing results.

Peta taking us through the process of Gelatine printing. Great work Peta. The girls really enjoyed this technique & it became very additive with all the different papers to use. Throw nothing away -everything has a purpose in the world of Art :)

Gelatin printing is a form of monoprinting which uses
gelatin as the printing surface. The textures created are usually quite soft, however a surprising amount of detail can also be achieved. Acrylic paints were used and printing will be on a variety of papers,Watercolour, Rice, Mulberry, Abaka,Scrapbooking, found papers such as music sheets, maps, old book pages, fabrics that have been pre washed and ironed may also be used as a printing surface. Leaves, grasses, feathers, flat found objects, flat plastic or paper shapes (handmade or purchased such as alphabet letters or numbers from a scrapbook shop), lace and open weave fabric and rubber stamps will all be used to create image and textures on the chosen papers. Prints can be both positive and negative and also layered one on top of the other to create a multitude of images and colours.

Liz, Karen & Glenda really enjoying themselves with the printing :)
